Our Story

Founded in 1997, Seattle Jobs Initiative (SJI) emerged from a critical need for job training opportunities for low-income individuals. In partnership with the Annie E. Casey Foundation and Seattle’s Office of Economic Development, SJI was established to provide essential job-skills training, wraparound services, and business engagement, ensuring that under-invested communities can access living-wage jobs.

Impact

SJI supports low-income job seekers by offering career-start technical training and aligning support services to help them secure and retain well-paying jobs. By embedding stipends into its programs, SJI alleviates the financial burden of basic needs, resulting in higher enrollment and completion rates, as well as increased wages for participants.
