Our Story
The Science Spectrum was born from a vision in 1984, when a group of passionate citizens recognized the need for a science museum in the South Plains. By 1986, a dedicated board was formed, and the Science Spectrum was officially incorporated. The journey began with the first traveling exhibit, "Light and Sight," which premiered in February 1988 at the South Plains Mall. A year later, the museum celebrated its Grand Opening at its first permanent location on 50th and Slide. In 1993, the Science Spectrum moved to its current location on the South Loop, where it has continued to thrive as a beacon of education and entertainment. Over the past 35 years, the Science Spectrum has showcased more than 50 traveling exhibits, serving as a vital resource for science education to hundreds of thousands in Lubbock and beyond.
