Our Story

The Mexican Heritage Plaza, located in the heart of the Mayfair neighborhood in East San José, stands as a testament to cultural resilience and community spirit. Established in 1999 on the historic site of a grocery store boycott led by César Chavez, this unique cultural facility has transformed over the years. In 2010, the City of San José approved the creation of the School of Arts and Culture at MHP, a nonprofit dedicated to fostering creativity and cultural engagement.

Impact

Through its Arts Education Program, SOAC serves 900 underserved children and youth annually, providing them with access to high-quality arts education. This program not only teaches valuable skills but also connects students to their heritage, peers, and families, enriching their lives and communities.
