About School Fuel

School Fuel’s mission is to provide the essential 'fuel' for a better learning environment by alleviating hunger among students in San Marcos, Texas. With over 75% of school-age children qualifying for the federal free/reduced lunch program, many go home on weekends to little or no food. This lack of nutrition significantly impacts their academic performance during the week.

Our Impact

Since its inception in Spring 2013, School Fuel has expanded from a pilot program serving 31 homeless students to currently providing weekend food sacks for 1,300 students at high risk of food insecurity. Each Friday, students receive a sack filled with nutritious, easy-to-prepare foods, ensuring they have the sustenance needed to thrive in school. The program has shown remarkable results, including improved student performance and reduced health complaints.
