About the School for Advanced Research

Established in 1907, the School for Advanced Research (SAR) has evolved from the School of American Archaeology to a leading institution dedicated to innovative research in anthropology and Native American art. Located on the ancestral lands of the Tewa people in Santa Fe, New Mexico, SAR plays a pivotal role in the professionalization of anthropology and the recognition of Southwestern Native American arts.

Impact of SAR

SAR has funded over 350 scholars and artists worldwide, including six MacArthur Fellows and eighteen Guggenheim Fellows. The organization fosters critical discussions on pressing issues such as population migration and collaborates with indigenous communities to preserve and repatriate cultural artifacts.
