Our Story

Founded in 2005 by Shari Raider, the Sauvie Island Center emerged from a desire to connect local children with the land through farm tours. Collaborating with farmers, educators, and culinary experts, including James Beard award-winning chef Cory Schreiber, the Center offers unique educational experiences that foster a deep understanding of food, farming, and land stewardship.

Impact

Since its inception, over 20,000 children have visited the Sauvie Island Center. Many of these children come from Title 1 schools, benefiting from the Center’s scholarship program that ensures equitable access to farm-based learning.
