Our Story

Sarasota in Defense of Animals Inc, founded in 1989 by Elise Mattes, is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating animals facing euthanasia. Under the leadership of Jaqlyn Tinaro since 2021, the sanctuary has become a safe haven for cats, dogs, horses, and livestock. SDA is one of only 30 sanctuaries in the U.S. certified by The World Society for Protection of Animals, ensuring the highest standards of care.

Our Impact

In Florida, SDA provides lifelong care to sick, elderly, and unadoptable animals, working closely with county animal services to save lives.
