Our Story
Founded in 1965 by Chuck and Mary Pope, the Santa Barbara Rescue Mission began by providing the Gospel and hot meals to the homeless. Over the years, it has expanded its services to include a comprehensive 12-month Residential Recovery Program for men and women struggling with addiction. This program offers a safe environment and the support needed for recovery, helping individuals break free from cycles of addiction, poverty, and homelessness.
Impact
Each year, the Santa Barbara Rescue Mission serves approximately 140,000 meals and provides safe shelter to 200 men and women each night. Annually, over 30 individuals graduate from its recovery program, with more than 934 individuals having successfully graduated since 1997. Remarkably, over 52% of these graduates maintain their recovery for over five years, significantly surpassing national averages.
