Our Story
In 2001, a dedicated group of community activists and leaders recognized the need for a unified approach to address the pressing issues facing Santa Barbara County. This collaboration led to the formation of the Santa Barbara County Action Network (SBCAN) in January 2002. SBCAN was established to bridge the gap between environmental and social justice initiatives, fostering a collective vision for a sustainable future. Over the years, SBCAN has empowered numerous board members to take on public office roles, including Congressman Salud Carbajal and County Supervisor Das Williams. The organization has been instrumental in opposing harmful urban development and fossil fuel projects while advocating for alternative energy, affordable housing, and immigrant rights.
