Our Story

The San Luis Obispo International Film Festival was founded by Mary A. Harris, a local attorney inspired by her experiences at film festivals in Los Angeles and Telluride. Launched in 1993 with support from the City of San Luis Obispo, the festival began with a focus on classic and restored films. Over the years, it has evolved to embrace independent films and provide educational opportunities for filmmakers, fostering a vibrant film community.

Impact

Generous support from sponsors and donors covers up to half of the festival's operating costs, supports local venues, and funds educational opportunities such as discussion panels and workshops for budding filmmakers.
