Our Story

The San José Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1991 by passionate local musicians eager to explore chamber orchestra repertoire and contemporary compositions. Inspired by a challenge from the late drummer Sammy Cohen, the orchestra began its journey with a concert sponsored by the San José Chamber Music Society, quickly forming a dedicated board to support its mission.

Impact

Over 32 seasons, the San José Chamber Orchestra has produced seven CDs of American music and premiered over 200 new works, demonstrating a strong commitment to contemporary music and community engagement.
