Our Story

Founded in 1978 by Nils Peterson and Naomi Clark, the San Jose Center for Poetry and Literature provides a nurturing space for poets to hone their craft and support one another. The center officially opened the Markham House in 2002, which serves as a hub for literary activities and houses special collections for poets.

Impact

Over the past 40 years, PCSJ has hosted hundreds of exceptional writers and poets, significantly enriching the Bay Area's literary community through workshops, readings, and the publication of the acclaimed literary journal, Caesura.
