Our Story
The San Francisco Interfaith Council (SFIC) was established in December 1988, responding to a call from then Mayor Art Agnos to provide shelter and meals for the homeless during a harsh winter. In the wake of the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989, this coalition of clergy and community leaders expanded its mission to aid those displaced by disaster. Officially recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization in 1991, SFIC has since united various faith communities to tackle pressing social issues, including homelessness, disaster preparedness, and social justice.
