Our Story
The inception of San Francisco Community Agencies Responding to Disaster (SF CARD) traces back to the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake. The immediate response and leadership demonstrated by local nonprofit and faith-based organizations highlighted their critical role in disaster recovery. In 1994, SF CARD was formally established to coordinate efforts among these organizations, ensuring they could effectively serve vulnerable populations during emergencies. Over the past 25 years, SF CARD has evolved into a respected intermediary agency, expanding its services beyond San Francisco to several Bay Area counties.
