Our Story
Born from the fires of discrimination in 1917 and 1918, the San Diego Teachers’ Association (SDTA) arose in response to the unjust firing of 18 dedicated educators by a biased Board of Education. This board, known as “The Solid Three,” targeted teachers who refused to pledge loyalty to their oppressive regime. In a remarkable show of solidarity, fellow teachers, students, and community members rallied together, leading to a powerful movement that challenged the injustices faced by these educators. Despite the eventual victory, many of the affected teachers never returned to their beloved profession, leaving a lasting impact on the community.
