About the San Diego Automotive Museum
The San Diego Automotive Museum was born from the vision of Briggs Cunningham, a celebrated automobile collector and racer. After years of advocacy by local automotive enthusiasts, the San Diego City Council approved the museum in 1980, granting a long-term lease in the iconic Balboa Park. Following a $1 million renovation, the museum opened its doors in December 1988, showcasing a world-class collection of automotive history. Today, it stands as a vibrant tribute to the automobile's impact on culture and society.
