Founded in 1985, Salt Ponds Coalition is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the health of Rhode Island’s salt ponds. As the oldest volunteer marine water-quality monitoring program in the nation, it collaborates with environmental organizations and government agencies to restore ecosystems and educate the public on the importance of these vital resources.

The Coalition has successfully monitored and improved the health of six salt ponds in southwestern Rhode Island, fostering community engagement in stewardship and education.
