Our Story

Founded on May 1, 1988, WERU Community Radio began broadcasting from the top of Blue Hill Mountain, Maine, thanks to the dedication of volunteers led by Noel Paul Stookey. Initially operating from a converted chicken barn, the station has evolved into a vital community resource, now streaming online since 1999.

Impact

WERU serves as a platform for diverse programming that connects and uplifts the community in Midcoast, Downeast, and Central Maine. Hundreds have been trained in live radio broadcasting, amplifying voices often overlooked by commercial media.
