Our Story
Founded in 1985 by Stan and Alice Weber alongside four Nashville churches, Salama Urban Ministries began as S.T.E.P. (Strategies to Elevate People). Initially focused on tutoring and mentoring, the organization evolved to include a structured summer program, Summer of Champions, which has now expanded into a year-round initiative. Renamed Salama, meaning peace in Swahili, the ministry primarily serves the Edgehill community, providing K-8 students with academic support, performing arts, and Christ-centered spiritual development.
