Our Story

Founded in 1996 by Jim Catlin, Sageland Collaborative emerged from a grassroots effort to assist citizens in the roadless re-inventory of Bureau of Land Management lands in Southern Utah. Initially focused on the Wild Utah Project, which spanned nine million acres of wilderness, the organization has played a pivotal role in advocating for the conservation of rare desert waterways and vital wildlife habitats. The efforts led to the proposal of America’s Red Rock Wilderness Bill in Congress, marking a significant milestone in conservation advocacy.

Impact

Sageland Collaborative employs science-based strategies to enhance wildlife and land conservation, engaging community science volunteers and providing critical data for effective wildlife management.
