Our Story

Sage Compassion for Animals was founded by Julie Smith, DMV, DACVS, CCRT, MBA, in 2019, during the COVID-19 pandemic. With a successful veterinary career behind her, Julie established this nonprofit to prevent suffering and euthanasia by providing financial assistance to families facing medical crises with their pets. The organization has built strong partnerships with veterinary clinics, ensuring stability and support for those in need.

Impact

Since its inception, Sage Compassion for Animals has saved over 340 pets and awarded more than $900,000 in grants to assist families with veterinary care. This initiative not only alleviates the financial burden on pet owners but also helps mitigate compassion fatigue within the veterinary community.
