Our Story
In the fall of 2020, as the world grappled with the COVID-19 pandemic, San Francisco faced a growing inequity that disproportionately affected families of color. While private schools reopened, public schools remained closed, highlighting the urgent need for support. Co-founders Mari Fraga, Saul Kato, Stacie Calad-Thomson, and Tracey Briones emerged from this crisis, determined to mitigate the pandemic's impact on vulnerable communities. Through extensive research and community engagement, Safer Together was born—a nonprofit dedicated to providing essential resources and support to those in need.
More than just a COVID-19 testing organization, Safer Together has evolved into a trusted community partner, enhancing local capacity by hiring from within the communities served. By delivering co-created programs and resources, the organization adapts to the needs of its partners, ensuring that its impact drives structural change.
