Our Story
Founded in 1985 by H.J. “Doc” and Lena Weiler after the tragic loss of their son Jeff in an unbelted automobile crash, Safer New Mexico Now has been a beacon of hope for traffic safety in New Mexico. The Weilers' commitment to enhancing traffic safety laws has led to over three decades of impactful initiatives aimed at reducing traffic-related deaths and injuries.
Impact
Through collaborative efforts with the New Mexico Department of Transportation and law enforcement, Safer has helped New Mexico achieve a ranking of 13th in traffic fatalities, with a notable increase in seat belt use across the state.
