Our Story

Safe Place of the Permian Basin was founded in 1978 by a group of dedicated citizens who recognized the urgent need for support and shelter for victims of domestic violence in Midland, Texas. In 1980, the organization became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and acquired an old house to serve as a shelter and administrative office. Over the years, Safe Place has expanded its facilities, including a state-of-the-art shelter built in 1987 and further expansions in 1996 to enhance services for children and families.

Impact

Today, Safe Place operates a residential shelter and advocacy services in Midland and Odessa, covering 15 counties and 16,000 square miles. The organization provides secure and confidential emergency shelter, advocacy, counseling, and support services, empowering families to break the cycle of violence.
