Our Story

The Sadie Collective was co-founded in 2018 by Anna Gifty Opoku-Agyeman and Fanta Traore to tackle the pipeline problem faced by Black women in economics, finance, data science, and policy. Named after Dr. Sadie Tanner Mossell Alexander, the first African American to earn a doctoral degree in economics, the organization unites Black women at various stages of their careers to share resources, network, and advocate for greater visibility in these fields.

Our Impact

Dedicated to closing the diversity gap in economics, finance, policy, and data science, The Sadie Collective ensures that Black women not only participate but thrive. By creating mentorship and professional opportunities, the organization fosters an inclusive environment that promotes self-confidence and agency.
