Our Story
The S.T.A.R. initiative began in 1985 with four individuals discharged from the Maricopa Medical Center Psychiatric Annex. These pioneers formed a peer support group aimed at helping others transition from psychiatric care. By 1987, S.T.A.R. became Arizona's first peer recovery agency, providing essential support and education to prevent readmission to psychiatric units. Today, S.T.A.R. operates four program facilities, offering over 60 hours of support each week to more than 500 individuals annually.
