Our Story

Founded in 2010 by Celeste and Lucas Reyes, Rural Education Advancement and Development (READ) emerged from a deep personal journey. Inspired by their experiences in the underserved parishes of El Tingo/La Esperanza and Pilalo, Ecuador, the Reyes family recognized the stark educational disparities faced by local children. With a commitment to change, READ has become the only public library system in Cotopaxi, providing vital resources and support to the community.

Our Impact

READ addresses the critical lack of educational opportunities in rural Ecuador, particularly for indigenous and mestizo communities. By tailoring services to meet local needs, READ offers free internet access, book lending, computer classes, and a work-study program for at-risk youth. These initiatives empower individuals to overcome educational barriers and build a brighter future.
