Our Story

Founded in 1962 by celebrated California artist Ruby O’Burke, Ruby's Clay Studio & Gallery has been a cornerstone of the Castro district since 1967. Ruby envisioned a supportive environment for potters to hone their craft, and with the help of Ruth Asawa’s family, the studio flourished. After years of dedicated service, Ruby transitioned management in 1980, ensuring her legacy continued. In 1985, Ruby's became a non-profit organization, expanding its mission to serve local artists and disadvantaged communities.

Impact

Ruby’s Clay Studio & Gallery is dedicated to fostering creativity and community. From preschoolers benefiting from our Community Outreach program to adults exploring clay for the first time, Ruby’s serves a diverse range of artists.
