Our Story

Founded by Rosie Ellis in 1987, Rosies Southside Animal Shelter began as a humble effort to rescue stray kittens from her home. In 1994, Rosie purchased the property that now houses the shelter, and in 1995, the organization received its 501(c)(3) status. Since then, Rosie and her dedicated team have worked tirelessly to create a safe haven for Indianapolis’ at-risk dog and cat community.

Impact

Each year, Rosies Southside Animal Shelter rescues over 1,500 animals, providing them with the medical care and love they need. The shelter operates solely on donations, grants, and adoption fees, making every contribution vital to its mission.
