Our Story

Founded in 1999 by Irene DeGrandpre, a CASA volunteer and New Jersey Hero honoree, Roots & Wings began as a community-based volunteer operation in Morris County. This organization is dedicated to providing safe housing, emotional support, life skills, and educational opportunities for youth aging out of foster care, empowering them to rise toward their greatest potential.

Impact

Roots & Wings is the only non-profit in New Jersey exclusively dedicated to serving aged-out foster youth over the age of 21. In 2022, the organization served 21 young adults, with 3 completing their bachelor’s degrees and transitioning into safe and stable housing. Since 2007, Roots & Wings has changed the course of 160 young people’s lives.
