Our Story
In 2008, a dedicated group in the Fairview community recognized a significant gap in the availability of fresh produce at the Fairview Food Pantry. This realization sparked a movement to provide nutritious food to those in need. In 2009, the initiative took root on a half-acre of borrowed land, where fresh, organically grown produce was cultivated for donation to food pantries, community lunches, share markets, and job training programs. Over the years, Root Cause Farm has evolved, now producing an average of 10 tons of organic produce annually on one acre, serving marginalized communities throughout the Asheville area.
Originally named The Lord’s Acre, the farm paid homage to a historical initiative where local farmers shared their harvests with those facing food insecurity. In 2019, the organization rebranded to Root Cause Farm, reflecting its commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all, while fostering radical honesty and resilient community building.
