Our Story
It all began in 1973 when Philadelphia Eagles football player Fred Hill and his wife, Fran, faced the unimaginable when their daughter, Kim, was diagnosed with leukemia. During their time at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, they encountered families who traveled long distances to be with their children, often forced to sleep in waiting room chairs and rely on vending machines for food. Determined to help, Fred and Fran partnered with the Philadelphia Eagles, Dr. Audrey Evans, and local McDonald’s owner/operators to create a sanctuary for these families. This collaboration led to the establishment of the first Ronald McDonald House, providing a home-away-from-home for families in need. Today, there are 366 Ronald McDonald Houses and 242 Family Rooms worldwide, continuing the legacy of love and support.
