About Rockaway Development & Revitalization Corporation

Founded in 1978, Rockaway Development & Revitalization Corporation (RDRC) emerged from the collective efforts of community residents, civic leaders, and business owners who sought to combat the severe social and economic decline affecting the Rockaway peninsula and Broad Channel region. This area, encompassing eleven distinct neighborhoods from Far Rockaway to Breezy Point, faced challenges such as deteriorating commercial zones, substandard housing, and high poverty rates.

In 1987, RDRC was formed through the merger of three smaller agencies, creating the first Peninsula-wide development organization. Governed by a diverse Board of Directors, RDRC has since become a vital force in the community, focusing on job placement, training services, and comprehensive community development initiatives.

RDRC's mission is to serve as a catalyst for revitalization, removing barriers to economic growth, stimulating the local economy, and creating jobs. Through multi-service programs, RDRC enhances educational offerings, reduces neighborhood blight, and helps residents overcome geographic and social isolation.
