Our Story

Founded in 1966 as the Hudson River Fishermen’s Association, Riverkeeper has evolved into a powerful advocate for clean water and environmental justice. With a dedicated patrol boat and a full-time Hudson Riverkeeper since 1983, the organization has tirelessly worked to protect and restore the Hudson River and its surrounding environment.

Impact

Riverkeeper has successfully held hundreds of polluters accountable, compelling them to invest hundreds of millions in the remediation of the Hudson River. Once deemed an 'open sewer,' the river now thrives as one of the richest ecosystems on the planet.
