Our Story

The Rio Vista Food Pantry was founded in 1994 by Norma Simmer, a retired nurse, who began her mission to help those in need with just four volunteers. After the original organization ceased operations, Norma secured permission from the First Congregational Church to continue her work, leading to the establishment of the Rio Vista Food Ministry. Over the years, this organization has evolved, incorporating in 2006 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and expanding its services to include case management, emergency shelter, and utility assistance.

Impact

Currently, the Rio Vista Food Pantry serves 150 families each month, distributing over 500 bags of food and more than 12 tons of food in the last six months alone. With the help of 120 dedicated volunteers contributing over 10,000 hours annually, the pantry creates a vital safety net for local families in need.
