Rio Grande Return is dedicated to restoring the unique riverscapes and ecosystems of the arid Southwest. Utilizing low-tech, process-based methods, this organization fosters resilience and stewardship in vital land and water resources.

Impact of Restoration Efforts

Since its inception in 2007, Rio Grande Return has made significant strides in protecting and restoring thousands of acres of wetlands across New Mexico. Since January 2020, RGR has planted over 200,000 willow trees, 6,000 cottonwood trees, and 44,000 salt grass plugs, while also clearing invasive species from over 400 acres. The organization has constructed more than 650 in-stream structures and established a native seed propagation farm, contributing to the health of local ecosystems.
