Therapeutic Horseback Riding

Our Story

Founded in 1979 by physical therapist Maria Kyne, Riding for the Handicapped of Western PA is a pioneering program dedicated to providing therapeutic horseback riding for children and young adults with physical, mental, and emotional disabilities. Inspired by the healing power of horses, this initiative has transformed the lives of over 100 riders annually, making it one of the first programs of its kind in the United States.

Impact

For more than 30 years, RHWPA has offered 45-minute therapy sessions to children and young adults, all staffed by dedicated volunteers. This unique program not only enhances physical abilities but also fosters emotional growth and social skills.
