Our Story
In 1965, Patricia Schuster opened a small dance studio in Ridgefield, driven by a vision to bring New York City quality dance to the local community. Over 34 years, she established the Ridgefield Studio of Classical Ballet as a leading institution, fostering a love for dance among young performers. In 1978, Patricia founded the Ridgefield Civic Ballet, offering aspiring dancers the chance to perform alongside professionals, igniting their passion for the art form.
Following Patricia's passing in 1999, her legacy was entrusted to The Ridgefield Playhouse, which recognized the need for a dedicated management structure. In 2002, the Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance was born, with James Robey and Melissa Gerth at the helm, expanding the vision to include diverse dance forms. The Conservatory's first full-length production of The Nutcracker premiered in December 2002, fulfilling Patricia's dream.
Today, the Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance is a nationally recognized institution, offering exceptional training in ballet, jazz, and modern dance. The commitment to excellence in dance education continues to inspire students from Ridgefield and surrounding areas.
