Established in 2001, the Rhode Island Center Assisting Those In Need is dedicated to providing food for the hungry and addressing various poverty issues. With a strong focus on community support, RICAN has expanded its services to include emergency clothing and furniture assistance. The Food Rescue Program, launched in collaboration with Walmart, has been pivotal in this mission, rescuing surplus food daily from local Supercenter stores.
To date, RICAN has rescued over 800,000 pounds of donated food, significantly alleviating hunger in the community.
