Our Story

Founded in 1975 by Dr. George Y. Omura, Responsive Caregivers of Hawaii (RCH) began as the Research Center of Hawaii, dedicated to providing day-activity programs and residential facilities for adults with developmental disabilities. In 1977, RCH opened its first group home, facilitating the transition of individuals from institutional settings into the community. Over the years, RCH has expanded its services, including the establishment of the first intermediate care facilities in 1985 and the launch of the Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) program in 1990 under the Medicaid Waiver.

Our Impact

RCH enhances the independence and community integration of individuals with developmental disabilities through comprehensive support services funded by the Medicaid Waiver Program.
