Our Story

In the mid-1960s, a group of East Bay parents of adult children with disabilities began sharing their experiences of the high stress associated with round-the-clock caregiving. This led to the formation of a respite committee under the Alameda and Contra Costa Developmental Disability Councils. After 24 years of discussions, The Respite Inn was established in 1990 to provide out-of-home respite and emergency services for adults with developmental disabilities.
