Our Story

Resources for Independent Living, Inc. has its roots in the late 1960s, when a group of college students with severe disabilities in Berkeley, California, led by Ed Roberts, took a stand for their rights. They established the first Center for Independent Living, advocating for housing, transportation, and personal care services. This movement laid the foundation for independent living across the nation.
