About The Wild Animal Sanctuary

Established in 1980, The Wild Animal Sanctuary (TWAS) is the largest and oldest sanctuary of its kind in the world, located on 1,214 acres of rolling grasslands outside of Keenesburg, Colorado. This state and federally licensed facility is home to over 750 large carnivores, providing them with a safe haven from abusive and neglectful situations. In addition to the main sanctuary, TWAS operates multiple facilities across the U.S., including The Wild Animal Refuge in southern Colorado and The Wild Horse Refuge in Craig, CO, which was acquired in January 2023.

Impact of The Wild Animal Sanctuary

With a mission to rescue and rehabilitate, TWAS has successfully saved over 1,000 animals, offering them lifelong care in natural habitats. The sanctuary not only provides a safe environment for these animals but also educates the public about the captive wildlife crisis, advocating for better treatment of exotic animals.
