Our Story

The Dog Refuge was born from a heartfelt journey that began in Delray Beach, Florida, in 2012. After adopting our first rescue dog, Duke, a pitbull mix saved from death row at the Miami Dade Animal Shelter, a passion for helping dogs in need ignited. The addition of Buddy, a special Malinois mix, further deepened this commitment. Despite his struggles with lymphoma, Buddy taught us the importance of love and care for rescue dogs.

Recognizing a critical gap in the rescue community, The Dog Refuge was established to not only rescue dogs but also provide essential training to ensure successful adoptions. By focusing on behavioral rehabilitation and basic obedience, the organization aims to enhance the lives of both dogs and their adoptive families.
