About Rescue Mission Alliance
The Rescue Mission Alliance was founded by Charles and Mary Pope, who recognized the urgent need for a shelter in the Oxnard area. Established in 1972, the organization has grown to become the longest-standing shelter for the homeless in Ventura County, offering over 175 beds to those in need. After a devastating fire in 1992, the community rallied together to help rebuild, allowing the Mission to expand its services and reach more individuals and families.
In 1997, the Rescue Mission Alliance was formed to address the growing needs of the homeless population across Ventura, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and San Bernardino Counties. With a commitment to providing comprehensive support, the Alliance operates two food banks, three emergency shelters, six residential recovery programs, transitional housing, and job training services.
Impact of Rescue Mission Alliance
Every night, the Rescue Mission Alliance provides a safe haven for up to 411 homeless individuals and families. The organization’s wide range of services ensures that participants receive the necessary support to lead healthy, self-sufficient lives. In 2023, the Alliance rebranded to emphasize its commitment to local communities and the strength of its collective efforts.
