Our Story
Founded in 1978, Reins of Life Inc began with just 32 hours of therapeutic riding lessons for 16 riders in the backyards of supportive friends. Over the years, the organization has grown significantly, utilizing borrowed arenas and equipment to serve individuals with disabilities in St. Joseph County, Indiana. In 1991, a permanent home was established when Nancy and Lloyd Taylor generously donated twenty acres of land on Quince Road. Today, Reins of Life serves over 500 riders annually, providing 3,000 hours of lesson time across 10 counties in Indiana and Michigan.
In 2007, a remarkable opportunity arose with the donation of a 46-acre property in Michigan City, known as Royal Acres Equestrian Center. This facility has tripled in ridership, welcoming individuals from La Porte and Porter County, and further expanding the reach of therapeutic riding lessons.
