Our Story
Founded in 2010, the Regional Emergency Shelter Team (REST) emerged from the need to address homelessness in Yuba City and Marysville. Initially operating from an abandoned firehouse, REST transitioned to a faith-based rotating shelter model, partnering with local churches to provide a safe haven for those in need. In its inaugural season, REST filled nearly 1,900 beds, including 27 for minor children, showcasing the community's commitment to helping the vulnerable.
Over the years, REST has expanded its services, now offering shelter for 18 weeks each winter, providing over 30 beds each night along with evening and breakfast meals. With more than 25,000 shelter beds and hot meals served over 14 seasons, REST has become a vital resource for families, single women, and couples facing homelessness during the harsh winter months.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, REST adapted to the challenges by increasing its services and extending shelter availability, ensuring that families and women continued to receive the support they needed. The dedication of volunteers and the generosity of the community have been instrumental in REST's ability to serve those in crisis.
