Refuge International was founded by Deborah Bell after a life-changing medical mission trip to Guatemala in 2000. Witnessing the struggles of a young boy suffering from diarrhea and fever, Deborah was inspired to take action. The lack of access to clean water and healthcare in rural Guatemala is a pressing issue, affecting over 1 million people. This experience ignited a passion to improve the lives of those in remote areas, leading to the establishment of Refuge International.

Making a Lasting Impact

In the past year, Refuge International has made significant strides in providing essential services. Volunteers and donors have helped deliver healthcare to homeless patients in Longview, Texas, and have worked tirelessly on water projects to ensure safe drinking water for remote villages. The organization has funded two full-time school teachers, shipped medical and educational supplies to nine facilities, and operated a full-time hospital in Sarstun, one of Guatemala's most isolated regions. Over 10,000 patients have received care, including vital surgeries and treatments for parasites.
