Our Story

Refuge and Hope International began as a small initiative in 2001, supporting nine boys affected by the war in Southern Sudan. Founded by Jade and Shelah Acker, this organization emerged from their work in a camp for former child soldiers. In 2004, Refuge and Hope was officially registered, with a vision to serve a broader refugee population in Uganda, a country hosting a significant number of displaced individuals. By 2008, the organization launched an English as a Second Language (ESL) and Christian discipleship program, which has since evolved to serve over 1000 refugees annually.

Our Impact

Refuge and Hope empowers over 1000 refugees each year, providing essential education, professional development, and spiritual support, enabling them to thrive in their new environments.
