Coral Reef Restoration

Our Story

Reef Renewal Foundation International (RRFI) began with a shared passion for the oceans and a commitment to restoring coral reefs. The journey started in Florida, where Ken Nedimyer, a commercial fisherman, witnessed the alarming decline of coral reefs. Determined to make a difference, he established the first offshore coral nursery in the Florida Keys. This innovative approach inspired similar efforts in Bonaire, where local divers, led by Buddy Dive Resort and coordinated by Francesca Virdis, joined forces with Ken to create a successful community-based coral restoration project.

As the need for a global network became evident, RRFI was formed to expand coral restoration efforts worldwide. By establishing practical and active coral reef restoration projects, RRFI aims to empower communities to take action and protect these vital ecosystems for future generations.

Our Impact

Thanks to the dedication of our network members and the generous support of donors, nearly 100,000 corals have been restored to reefs globally. This achievement highlights the power of collective action in preserving our oceans.
